they get it honest

Last year, I began to take pictures when I was home in Florida of my family. When I returned home to my new college, MassArt in Boston, with the pictures I’d taken and handfuls of images plucked from scrapbooks I began my current project. This body of work “they get it honest” focuses on my relationship to my family after leaving for college and what it means to return home. This work uses multiple photographic processes to express psychological space. When taken in as a whole the images make connections between memories, time, and how photography has always been a way to build my own personal space and identity.

experiment in vulnerability

In this project, I used strobe lights, theatrical sets, and a personal archive to create a series of self portraits that opened up a space to talk about my gender identity and relationships. Through this work I considered how to frame myself and my loved ones, and how to talk about my photography as an expression of my individual experience for interpretation and reflection.
